High and Dry in Pot Country

The California drought wreaked havoc on agriculture across the state. Even in the so called "Emerald Triangle" famous for its sun grown marijuana there were worries about running out of water to bring in the harvest. As water gets scarcer, state and county officials say that illegal grows get more brazen and often cause serious environmental damage.

But many say cannabis can be grown green, among them Swami Chaitanya, a sort of counter-culture Zelig who showed us around his farm and told us tales from old days. Swami had stints as a Haight Street hippie, as a photographer for a NYC punk magazine and most recently as an elder statesman of the now largely legal marijuana trade in Northern California.

Women as Sumo Wrestlers

American sumo wrestlers of all shapes and backgrounds descended on Jackson Hole, Wyo., for the United States Sumo Championships. The women were a small, but proud, contingent.

A fascinating weekend with the women who wrestle and take sumo seriously and not so seriously. I shot this video to go with Mary Pilon's story on the same subject. Taige Jensen did the cut.
