Synchronous Fireflies in the Smokies

Robbie Brown and I traveled to Tennessee's vacation hotspots of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg where you might think most folks would flock to see the shows at Dollywood or the tourist attractions in town. Well, plenty of people come for those attractions but one of the area's biggest draws is the brief annual mating ritual of a speices of firefly that blink together in unison.

We were there at the tail end of the peak time to see the insects and I can tell you that capturing fireflies on video is tough work.
